The Central Parkland Parent Link Network includes 5 Parent Link Centres located in Blackfalds, Lacombe, Ponoka, Rimbey and Wetaskiwin. Each centre provides free parenting and play programs to meet the unique needs of the families and communities it serves. Parents and caregivers can participate in a wide variety of activities and information.
Parent Link Centres (PLCs) help to:
- develop nurturing environments that support early childhood development
- increase Albertans’ confidence in parenting skills
- improve parents’ awareness of community and parenting resources
- help parents cope with everyday stress
- enhance connections with other parents and caregivers
- strengthen a sense of belonging in the community
- decrease the isolation new parents may sometimes feel
To do so, qualified staff deliver parenting programs, share information about child development, and help families deal with parenting and family issues.
PLCs offer the Positive Parenting Program. Positive parenting skills and an understanding of what to expect of children at different developmental stages is linked to positive developmental outcomes for children. Support at PLCs also helps parents positively influence the health and well-being of children.
We are also affiliated with the greater network of Parent Link Centres across Alberta (www.humanservices.alberta.ca/family-community/15576.html).
As an Alberta-based initiative, the Provincial Parent Link Centre Network meets the demand for services to support parents and families. Since 2004, the network has grown from 22 locations, serving approximately 5,800 Albertans, to over 57 locations serving more than 107,000 Albertans a year.
What We Believe
Parent Link Centres believe that children enter the world full of potential. The extent to which a child's potential is realized is strongly influenced by early experiences. Children thrive in families and communities that protect their health and safety, nurture and respect them, and provide opportunities for involvement with caring adults, stimulating play and safe exploration of their environment.
Central Parkland Parent Link Network is funded through a grant from Alberta Ministry of Children's Services.
Administrative services for the local network are provided through Lacombe & District Family and Community Support Services.
